Don’t flush feminine products or condoms down the toilet!

Do we really not know this by now? Yes, it clogs the toilet! Believe it or not, toilets clogged with feminine products is a weekly call for us at The Good Plumber. And we are removing a pile of condoms from a clogged toilet about twice a year. It may make you chuckle, but it DOES happen!

  • The funny thing is that most of the boxes of feminine products say “septic safe,” which technically is not true.
  • Following the advice on the box (and have any of us really ever read that on the box??), you flush them down the toilet, and the next thing you know, you’re having a tampon party in your sewer drain.
  • The big reason to avoid this is not only the cost to unclog your toilet, but it’s really the embarrassment – for you AND for us. The last thing we want to tell you on a service call for your clogged toilet is that we recovered all your tampons (we refer to them as “sewer rats”) from the last few months. It’s not a fun conversation for either of us!

Not in the toilet, please! Wrap ’em up and throw ’em away – in the garbage can!
